Nightscape Photography Workshop Night Photography Quick Reference Cards (Download PDF Guide below) (Download below) Payment Options listed below (Choose what you can afford)
I've decided to release a number of online versions of my hugely popular Nightscape Photography Workshops. This will be a series of videos going through all the topics I cover during the live workshop events. I've been considering this for quite a while but the recent world events surrounding the Covid-19 epidemic have forced me to do something to keep my head above water as many of my workshops have been suspended. Additionally I've made the bold decision to offer this entire course completely free to download.
You'll notice a Paypal icon at the top of this screen and I'd appreciate if you choose to support me with a payment that suits your ability to contribute at this time. I'm very much aware that we are all in the same financial place and if you can't afford to pay anything .. then that's quite ok with me. The actual videos will be uploaded to my regular Youtube channel as time progresses and I'll be referencing my past videos to help give the various topics more perspective in a real world setting. The videos are listed below as well as reference RAW files for you to download.

Nightscape Photography Workshops - Online
This is a unique opportunity to delve into what it takes to create awe inspiring nightscape images. This free course will be released weekly here on my website and on my youtube channel. There will be practical tips as well as in the field demonstrations and post processing lessons. Episode 1: What is Nightscape Photography In the first installment of our workshops online series we take a look at the Basic Rundown of what we'll be looking at during the course. We especially look at these topics: * Tripods * Focusing in the Dark * Depth of Field Chart Episode 2: How to Find the Milky Way Today we'll be looking at where to look in the sky to locate the magnificent Milky Way Galactic Core. It's in a different spot as the months roll on but don't let that deter you. I'll also be running through some interesting characteristics and mindsets of the average nightscape photographer. I may even "De-Bunk" a few commonly held practices ...!!! Episode 3: Creative Composition In this episode we look at what it takes to achieve an awe inspiring nightscape image. Our focus is on both the mindset as well as the preparation required to nail a great composition. Even though it's more difficult at night we discuss how it's still a requirement to consider proven photographic concepts such as leading lines, rule of thirds etc. Episode 4: Lighting for Nightscape Images In my opinion there is no other dynamic that brings the magic to a nightscape image more than lighting it creatively. In this episode I'll discuss my lighting options and show some of the tools and techniques I use out in the field. Light painting is certainly an art form and can't be mastered overnight, it takes a lot of practice but I believe it requires just as much understanding of the theory of lighting as it does the actual application. Episode 5: Focus Stacking & Blending Sometimes it's impossible to get the whole image in good focus from front to back, so we look at a method to ensure that .. Focus Stacking. It's not as complicated as many people think and in this episode we look at both shooting in the field and the post processing of our image. Episode 6: Star Trails Today we look at star trails and the various methods people use to produce them. I'll be demonstrating my preferred workflow as we travel back in time to look at a timeless edit of a wonderful subject. Episode 7: Timelapse One of the most engaging forms of photography happens when we compile a sequence of still images into a timelapse movie. In this episode I'll run through some of my techniques as we go out in the field to shoot two examples. Episode 8: Panoramas In this episode we go through the principles of shooting and editing nightscape panoramas. I'll look at simple and more complex multi row images and we'll get to edit 2 different compositions. |
